Outrigger bolsters its luxury portfolio with the acquisition of a 5-star resort in the Maldives

Outrigger Hospitality Group expands its global portfolio with the acquisition of the newly refurbished 5-star Maldives resort, Maafushivaru.

The luxury resort, located on a private island in the South Ari Atoll region, will be renamed Outrigger Maldives Maafushivaru Resort.

The resort is made up of 81 luxury villas including beachfront, pool and duplex accommodations, as well as overwater bungalows.

“There are few destinations that evoke higher levels of relaxation, elegance and seclusion than the Maldives. This resort is the perfect complement to our lineup of global beachfront properties,” said Jeff Wagoner, President and CEO of Outrigger Hospitality Group.

“With the increase in travel, we look forward to welcoming our guests from around the world to the Maldives and curating unforgettable Outrigger Signature experiences that allow visitors to appreciate Maldivian culture in an iconic beachfront setting.”

The Maafushivaru Resort has recently undergone a complete renovation. Guests staying at the new resort now have access to seven restaurants, bars and cafes on the island, offering a range of different cuisines.

“Respecting the local host culture and fostering a deep appreciation of the communities in which we operate is key to the Outrigger experience,” added Wagoner.

“As Outrigger approaches its 75th anniversary this year, we look forward to celebrating this new luxury property in the Maldives as part of the next chapter of our premier resort brand.”

Outrigger has named John Allanson, who has three decades of hotel management experience, as general manager.
