MakeMyTrip sees 150% increase in luxury and high-end hotel bookings

Leading online travel services company MakeMyTrip said on Wednesday it has seen an almost 150% increase in luxury and high-end hotel bookings during the pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic period, as more and more more Indian travelers are looking for elite travel experiences.

He further said luxury vacation bookings soared nearly 90% after the first wave and almost 40% more after the second wave last year, indicating a noticeable shift in traveler preferences towards seeking elite travel experiences.

“We have seen an almost 150% increase in luxury and high-end hotel bookings during the pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic period,” Prakash added.

MakeMyTrip said there has been a more than 30% increase in bookings for luxury properties in Tier II, III markets and above. Among the list of most sought after and booked destinations by luxury lovers are Jaipur, Udaipur, Coorg, Goa, Mumbai and Kolkata.

Over the past two years, as demand for luxury vacations has skyrocketed, at the same time, the supply of new luxury properties has also taken an upward trajectory with inventory coming from Tier I, II and III markets, a he added.

To capitalize on the trend, the company announced that it has also launched its Luxe Selection, a themed collection of almost 300 super premium and luxury properties.

“Through Luxe Selection, we aim to improve the visibility and discoverability of luxury properties across the country – bringing them all under one platform. We hope to make Luxe Selection the premier search and booking port for luxury stays among discerning Indian travellers,” Prakash mentioned.
